This article in the Guardian newspaper explains how British Gas, one of the leading energy retailers in the UK, is transforming the way consumers understand and use energy.

“With smart meters we can look forward to a future where we are more in control of our energy use and expenditure,” says Jorge Picunic, Managing Director of British Gas Smart Metering.

Excerpt: The installation of smart meters will transform how we understand and use energy and is set to be the biggest change in our homes since the mass roll-out of central heating in the 1970s. British households will have more knowledge and control over their energy use than ever before: they will be able to see their energy use in near real-time so they can make more informed choices about energy efficiency, and meter readings will be sent to energy suppliers automatically, making estimated bills a thing of the past.
